On February 17, 2022, a Dublin charter-return operation to Romania and Bulgaria organised by Austria took place. A total of 10 persons - 8 of them to Romania and 2 to Bulgaria - were transferred. Among the transferred migrants were 3 Afghan, 2 Tunisian, 1 Egyptian, 1 Indian, 1 Moroccan and 1 Bangladeshi national as well as one stateless person.

The purpose of the Dublin III Regulation is to determine which Member State of the European Union is responsible for the examination of the asylum application. This ensures that each application for international protection can be processed quickly by the Member State responsible and that the protection assessment in the EU is carried out only once.
