Syrian migrant smuggler sentenced to ten years in prison
A 41-year-old Syrian was sentenced to an unconditional prison term of ten months for smuggling on 11.04.2022 at the Feldkirch Regional Court.
The defendant was charged with having accompanied four compatriots from Vienna via Bregenz to Germany in December 2020. According to the evidence, the defendant first bought train tickets for his four compatriots in Vienna, whom he then also accompanied on the train to Bregenz. From there, the journey was to continue to Germany.
One of the Syrians wanted to make his way to acquaintances in the Netherlands, another one to Sweden. However, the men would have had to make it across the German border themselves, which they failed to do due to their lack of local knowledge. The group was apprehended in Bregenz. The verdict is not legally binding.
