Providing aid on the ground: Seven million euros in humanitarian aid for Afghanistan
Following a devastating earthquake, the Austrian government supports aid organisations on the ground
In order to alleviate the humanitarian needs of the Afghan population, the Austrian government has made seven million euros available from the Foreign Disaster Fund for aid organisations in Afghanistan and the surrounding region. This will ensure effective assistance for internally displaced persons in Afghanistan and Afghan refugees in neighbouring countries and help prevent cross-regional migration movements to Europe.
The aid funds are transferred directly to the aid organisations to prevent misuse by the Taliban regime. In this context, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has received four million euros, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) one million euros and Austrian aid organisations in Afghanistan two million euros.
