As a direct reaction to the acute plight of the Pakistani population, the Austrian government decided to pay out two million euros from the Foreign Disaster Fund (AKF) to deal with the flood disaster in Pakistan.

One million euros each will be made available to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRK) for their on-site aid activities.

Massive flooding had claimed thousands of lives within a very short time. According to the Pakistani government, over 30 million people have been affected by the effects of the monsoon rains and have been made homeless. Over 5 million people are in an acute humanitarian emergency. As a result, Pakistan declared a national emergency and asked for international help.

The funds provided are to be used for life-saving measures in various areas such as food security, emergency aid in the agricultural sector, accommodation, medical first aid, etc.
