Austria organized Europe's first FRONTEX charter to India

19 Indian nationals were handed over from Austria to the authorities in Delhi.

A total of 19 Indian nationals were handed over to the authorities in Delhi on September 29, 2022, in the course of Europe's first charter return operation to India. The charter operation was organized by Austria and coordinated by FRONTEX.

In the case of all persons returned from Austria, the individual case was comprehensively examined in a procedure based on the rule of law and the asylum procedure was concluded with a legally binding negative decision. In general, Indian nationals have little chance of receiving a protection-granting decision from the Federal Office for Immigration and Asylum (BFA). Currently, the recognition rate is 0 percent.

For this reason, in around 80 percent of cases, Indian nationals' claims for protection are examined in the course of fast-track procedures (average procedure duration of 27 days) or accelerated procedures (first instance decision within 72 hours).
