Police officers from Austria are helping to strengthen border protection measures on the Serbian-North Macedonian border. Federal Minister of the Interior Gerhard Karner expresses his gratitude to the deployed police officers.

Since 2020, Austrian police officers have been deployed both within the framework of Frontex on the Serbian-Bulgarian border and bilaterally on the border with North Macedonia using modern technology such as drones to support the Serbian police in border protection. This cooperation will be further intensified in the fight against migrant smuggling.

Minister Gerhard Karner said: "I would like to thank the Austrian police contingent for their commitment and dedication in the fight against organized crime. Close, cross-border cooperation in the fight against the brutal smuggling mafia is absolutely essential. The skills of the Austrian drone specialists are therefore also in demand on the border between Serbia and North Macedonia."
